Laser Hair Removal How It Works
Laser Hair Removal treatments work by emitting a light that is absorbed by the melanin (colour) in your hair follicle. The light generates heat that travels down to the follicle under the skin, inhibiting the hair’s ability to grow. This inactive hair follicle falls out, leaving your skin silky smooth. For maximum results we recommend a course of 6–10 laser hair removal treatments.

Laser Hair Removal Aftercare
It usually calms down within 2–12 hours after your laser hair removal treatment but may last up to 2 days.
- For immediate relief, cool under cold running water or apply icepacks to reduce heat in the skin.
- Apply SPF 50+ daily to sun exposed areas between treatments. Ask about Results Protect SPF 50+.
- Apply a cooling gel to keep your skin cool; ask about Results Active Recovery.
- If face is treated use only mineral based makeup for 48hrs after treatment. Ask about our Velvet Co mineral makeup.
- Avoid excessive sun exposure for at least 2 weeks.
- Wash areas with cold or tepid water.
- Take luke-warm showers only.
Avoid:
- Using AHA, BHA or Vitamin A products.
- Strongly scented lotions & soaps.
- Exfoliating creams & scrubbing.
- Swimming pools & spas with chemicals/chlorine.
- Activities that cause excessive perspiration.
This is a heat rash.
- Cool under cold running water or apply icepacks to reduce heat in the skin.
- If itching persists, ask your local pharmacist to recommend an antihistamine cream.
- Allow blisters or open areas to heal naturally.
- Do not pick at the area – this can cause scarring.
- If healing is delayed, ask your local pharmacist if a thin coating of antibiotic ointment will assist.
- Allow any crusting to heal naturally – this normally takes 3–14 days. Application of antibiotic ointment is NOT recommended for crusting.
This is not hair re-growth but the treated hairs being purged from the follicle.
- Allow this hair to fall out of the skin on its own.
- Gentle exfoliation may help this process; ask about RESULTS ACTIVE SMOOTH.
These are hairs that were in the "rest" phase, which lasts 1–6 months, which are now active & is why multiple treatments are usually needed.
- Follow-up treatment can be booked within 1–2 weeks of new hair growth.
If you experience prolonged redness, swelling, infection or any other disturbance to the treated skin contact your clinic. In some cases we may advise you to contact your GP.
The Results Skin Homecare Kit for Laser Hair Removal has been created to help maintain, support treatments and help enhance results! The Kit includes:
- 1 x Active Recovery Gel. Benefits: Can be applied to treatment areas to help cool and soothe the skin.
- 1 x Active Smooth Exfoliator. Benefits: can be used to gently exfoliate the area and help remove purged hair 1–2 weeks after treatment.

The majority of people are suitable for Laser Hair Removal Treatments. Laser light is attracted to dark hair follicles and therefore the darker the hair follicle, the more likely it is to reduce unwanted hair. Treatment will not work on blonde, red or white hair.
There is no conclusive evidence to determine whether laser is safe or unsafe for pregnant or breastfeeding women. Please seek advice from your doctor first.
Definitely! Everyone’s skin and hair is different; that’s why it’s important our clinical therapists assess your hair during a consultation, and don’t worry it’s free. During your consultation, it’s also an opportunity for you to discuss any concerns, medications you are taking, what to expect during the treatment and how to take care of your skin after.
Avoid tanning, spray tans or gradual tanning creams.
Shave the area the night before and avoid using deodorants and other skin products on the area on the day of your treatment.
It’s important you let your therapist know what medications you are currently taking. If you are on any medications that treat acne, eczema, dermatitis and a number of other conditions, it may prevent treatment on that day. Please seek advice from your doctor first.
You may feel a short burst of heat as the condensed light reaches your hair follicles; some people describe the sensation as a tingling or a slight pinching sensation. All our lasers are accompanied by a cooling system that makes the treatment comfortable and pain-free.
After effects are minimal. Slight swelling and pinkness can occur, which usually fades in a few minutes. However, it is still important to avoid tanning before and after. Follow before and aftercare advice stringently and please inform us of any contradictions and deviations you have made to your aftercare plan.
The results of Laser Hair Removal are instantaneous. After a few weeks, you will notice re-grow but hairs will be fewer, finer and weaker than before treatment; you will notice further improvement with every treatment.
This is very normal and it’s important to follow the aftercare advice given to you by your therapist. Applying your Active Recovery Gel or Aloe Vera gel will help to soothe and cool the treated areas.
