Does it hurt?
You may feel a short burst of heat as the light targets the broken capillaries, some people describe the sensation as a tingling or a slight pinching sensation. All our lasers are accompanied by a cooling system that makes the treatment comfortable and pain-free!
What can I expect after treatment?
The treated area will be red and slightly raised or swollen directly after treatment. An ice pack applied to the treated area will help soothe and calm the swelling. Side effects generally subside within a few days after treatment, however, on rare occasions the skin may look slightly bruised and capillaries look darker for up to a few weeks. Sometimes, results can be seen after your first treatment where some broken capillaries may disappear on the spot. Other times, it may take a few treatments to achieve the desired results.
Why are there two technologies used for treatment?
Each of the technologies we use is specific to certain treatment requirements. We recommend facial capillaries be treated with Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) as it can be quite easily targeted to fine detail areas. Candela’s ND:YAG Laser is more suitable for broken capillaries or spider veins found in other parts of the body as it is more suitable to larger treatment areas due to its ability to be customised more accurately in both depth and width.
What causes Broken Capillaries?
Broken capillaries are most often caused by environmental factors including wind and sun damage. They can also be caused by hereditary factors, aging, extreme temperatures, hormone therapy, stress and fatigue, and oral contraception.
Am I suitable for treatment?
Broken capillary treatments are safe for all skin types and all vein appearances, although not recommended for raised veins such as varicose veins. Every session is individualised to your needs, by our highly trained specialists who will also provide you with a customised treatment plan. The IPL treatment is recommended for most people, except those who are affected by muscular disorders, pregnant or breastfeeding.
Is this treatment safe?
Absolutely! Laser systems are used worldwide – and our specific technologies are renowned for their high quality as well as being rated in the world’s top two medically-graded technologies. Laser technologies treat only targeted areas without affecting the surrounding skin.
