    About Facial Thread Lifting

Facial Thread Lifting is a minimally invasive alternative to a surgical facelift. It can contour the jawline, cheeks, brow and neck for a rejuvenated, more youthful-looking appearance.

As skin loses firmness, elasticity and volume over time, fine lines, wrinkles and sagging can develop. Facial Thread Lifting is used to address facial sagging and restore volume by stimulating collagen production. The threads work beneath the surface to pull the skin taut and refine facial contours.

    Areas that can be addressed

    • Brow lift threading.
    • Fox Eye threading.
    • Mid-facelift threading.
    • Jawline and neck lift threading.

A complimentary consultation with the Cosmetic team is used to assess your features and create a treatment plan around your priorities.

    How Facial Thread Lifts Work

Facial Threads are bio-dissolvable polydioxanone (PDO) threads. They are 100% dissolvable and are used in surgical procedures worldwide.

For comfort, a local anaesthetic is applied. Using a non-incision method, threads are gently inserted beneath the skin and anchored into tissue to lift and tighten the skin.

As the threads dissolve, they stimulate collagen and elastin production, supporting tighter, firmer and more rejuvenated-looking skin over time. The PDO threads are non-allergenic, non-antigenic and biodegradable; the source notes that they come in various sizes, shapes and thicknesses and are TGA approved for their lifting and holding power.

Because collagen production is encouraged after the thread has dissolved, skin can remain firmer and more elastic. The treatment is positioned as a less invasive alternative to a surgical facelift and to non-invasive skin resurfacing.

    Your Facial Thread Lift Journey

Begin with a complimentary consultation, where a Cosmetic Nurse assesses your features, priorities and expected outcome. If you proceed, follow the preparation requirements for two to four weeks before treatment.

    1. The procedure generally takes 45 to 60 minutes.
    2. Follow the aftercare advice and book a follow-up appointment so the Cosmetic Nurse can assess recovery and results.
    3. Recovery can take seven to 14 days.
    4. As threads dissolve, their effects last for several months; the source recommends repeat treatment every eight to 12 months.

Treatments are tailored to individual needs and priorities.

    Benefits of Facial Thread Lifts

    • Instantly lifts the skin.
    • Addresses visible signs of skin ageing.
    • Restores natural facial contours.
    • Helps reduce sagging and wrinkles.
    • Plumps sunken areas and adds volume to flattened cheeks.
    • Boosts collagen and elastin.
    • Helps address shape and symmetry.
    • May improve wrinkles around the lips, eyes and forehead.
    • Is quick and less invasive than surgery, with minimal downtime compared with surgery.

    How the benefits are achieved

Collagen and elastin support: threads are strategically placed within the skin to gently pull and lift. As they dissolve, collagen and elastin production is stimulated beneath the surface.

Volume and plumpness: increased collagen production supports skin plumpness and elasticity, helping restore volume to hollow or sunken features.

Facial contours: a subtle lift can reduce the appearance of sagging and wrinkles and restore definition where the skin has lost firmness.

Shape and symmetry: Cosmetic Nurses map thread placement where lift or balancing is needed to pursue the desired result.

Immediate lift: strategically placed and anchored threads can correct sagging and wrinkles by gently lifting the skin.

    Facial Thread Lift Aftercare

    • Avoid sun and tanning for at least two weeks, and protect skin with SPF 50 sunscreen.
    • Avoid cosmetic injectable treatments: anti-wrinkle treatments for two weeks and dermal fillers for four weeks before treatment.
    • Avoid skincare containing active ingredients such as vitamin A, retinol or glycolic acid.
    • Avoid supplements that can increase bruising and bleeding, including green tea, omegas, primrose oil, garlic, echinacea, vitamin E and multivitamins.
    • Avoid Nurofen, aspirin and other anti-inflammatory or anticoagulation medications; only stop prescribed medication if approved by your GP.

    • Mild to moderate redness, swelling and bruising can take seven to 14 days to resolve. Arnica gel or ointment may be applied after the procedure as needed.
    • A stinging, pulling or scratchy sensation is normal and generally subsides within two to eight weeks.
    • Delayed healing and tenderness can subside in two to eight weeks, or longer.
    • Contact your clinic if you experience prolonged redness, swelling, infection or another disturbance to treated skin. In rare cases of infection, contact your GP.

    • Keep the dressing tape and insertion area dry for at least 24 to 48 hours, or as directed.
    • Use a cold compress for five to 10 minutes every hour for up to 24 hours if required to reduce pain and swelling.
    • LED Light Therapy immediately before or after treatment may help minimise swelling and bruising and enhance results.
    • Use Velvet Co Mineral Makeup or another mineral-based makeup after treatment.
    • If provided with a compression face sling, wear it consistently for 48 to 72 hours, then at night for one to two weeks, to help keep threads in place and reduce swelling.

    • Do not massage areas where PDO threads were placed unless instructed by your Cosmetic Nurse.
    • Avoid touching the area for 24 hours and direct pressure on the face for one week; sleeping on your back is recommended.
    • Until swelling and bruising resolve, avoid AHA or vitamin A products, strongly scented lotions and soaps, shaving, waxing, plucking, exfoliation, excessive sweating, swimming, saunas, very hot showers and excessive alcohol.
    • Do not book laser, skin or other cosmetic injectable treatments on the face for at least two weeks. Wait two weeks for anti-wrinkle injections, four weeks for dermal fillers, and four to six weeks for dental procedures.

The procedure is usually completed in under an hour. Results can be visible immediately and continue to improve over the next few months. The source recommends treatment every eight to 12 months to maintain results; after threads dissolve, collagen stimulation may leave skin firmer and more elastic than before treatment.

    Facial Thread Lifts FAQ's

Facial Thread Lifting is a non-incision alternative to a surgical facelift for loose skin and reduced elasticity. Threads are inserted beneath the skin and anchored into tissue to instantly lift and tighten the area.

The Cosmetic team assesses your concerns and determines the position and number of threads for the desired result. A local anaesthetic is administered, then threads are inserted beneath the skin with a cannula or micro-needle.

The procedure generally takes less than an hour, although the time can vary according to the number of threads used.

There may be numbness for several hours after the procedure, plus mild to moderate redness, swelling and bruising that typically resolve in seven to 14 days. Arnica gel or ointment may be used as needed. Slight tightness or a pulling sensation can occur and usually subsides in the first few weeks.

Suitability is assessed in a consultation. The source lists facial cancer (past or present, including SCC, BCC and melanoma), systemic cancer, chemotherapy, steroid therapy, facial dermatological disease such as porphyria, blood disorders or platelet abnormalities, and anticoagulation therapy such as warfarin as conditions requiring clinical assessment.

Results are visible immediately. As threads dissolve, effects can last for several months; the source recommends treatment every eight to 12 months.

Some clients experience soreness, redness and swelling afterwards, but most describe thread lifting as mild discomfort. A small amount of local anaesthetic is used for comfort.

    • Brow lift.
    • Fox Eye.
    • Mid-facelift.
    • Jawline and neck lift.

Tell the Cosmetic team about treatments received in the previous six months and medications you take. Avoid aspirin, Motrin, Advil, ibuprofen, vitamin E, gingko biloba, fish oil, garlic pills and other anti-inflammatory medication for one to two weeks before treatment if your GP approves, as they can increase bruising risk. Limit alcohol and smoking for at least a week before the procedure.
