    Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD) Screenings

Non surgical procedures can help you meet your aesthetic goals. However this shouldn’t be done at the expense of your wellbeing.

At Results Laser Clinic our goal is to empower you. Our clinic ensures compliance with all Australian standards. We continuously keep up to date with and implement the latest industry regulations. This is so we can provide a safer and more comfortable clinic experience.

    See how below:

What is Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD)?

Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD) is a mental health condition. This is when an individual becomes preoccupied with perceived flaws or defects in their appearance.

It’s important to note that said flaws are often left hardly noticed or even unseen by others. When someone is affected by BDD, they may go to extreme levels to repair “Flaws.” Those with BDD can focus on any specific bodily feature. This includes but isn’t limited to skin, hair, nose, or other features.

How the New Non Surgical Guidelines Look Out for BDD

At Results Laser Clinic, our process is designed to care for your wellbeing. This is across all cosmetic procedures that are issued. We comply with all TGA (Therapeutic Goods Administration,) and AHPRA (Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency) regulations for non surgical cosmetic procedures.

See how these guidelines change your consultation:

    TGA BDD Guidelines

Given these recent regulations, those providing treatments must have more enhanced training. We are also required to provide a thorough consultation before every treatment. We also must maintain a responsibility for a more comprehensive informed consent process.

    AHPRA BDD Regulations

From September 2nd 2025, we’re obligated to meet these new regulations. This is why a holistic patient assessment is required before every treatment. This is done to assess psychological wellbeing, including the risk of BDD. If this poses a concern, the patient must be referred for professional support.

*Please note that the above is a general overview of recent non surgical standards. For more information, see the resources provided by TGA and AHPRA. Our team can also answer any questions or concerns that you may have.

Why is BDD Screening Important Before My Cosmetic Treatment?

Individuals seeking cosmetic surgery are more likely to have BDD. According to the National Library of Medicine, the risk of BDD spikes anywhere from 16 to 23%.

Your wellbeing is our highest priority with every service. Which is why our mental health screening clinic takes steps to minimise these risks. So we can potentially meet your skin goals safely and securely. Providing peace of mind for both our practitioners and patients.

    See how below:

    Putting Your Wellbeing First

While our clinic is committed to your skin goals, your mental health is our priority. We don’t believe in non surgical cosmetics without the standard steps in place. This fosters a more positive atmosphere for both you and our practitioners. By knowing risk factors, we play a key role in putting your wellbeing first.

    Establishing Realistic Skin Goals

From the beginning, we’re committed to building trust and transparency with you. Unfortunately, BDD can set an unrealistic standard for the procedure. For example, you may be left feeling unsatisfied with the service provided. By doing a BDD screening, we determine whether these cosmetic goals are realistic.

We Meet Non-Surgical Cosmetic Guidelines and Regulations

At Results Laser Clinic, we meet all Australian non surgical standards. This includes those outlined as per both the TGA and AHPRA. Through this compliant approach, we work to provide a thorough assessment process. We align ourselves with these standards throughout the process.

What You Can Expect With Your Cosmetic Treatment Screening

The updated cosmetic consultation requirements require us to reflect these. This will then cause some changes to your experience. At Results Laser Clinic, we always aim for complete transparency. This is why we’ve provided a general guide for you.

See the BDD screening process below:

    1. Initial Consultation: When you first enter our clinic, you’ll be greeted by our staff. We’ll then communicate closely with you to understand your cosmetic treatment goals. From the beginning we maintain total transparency with you.
    2. Holistic Evidence Based Assessment: To ensure compliance with all AHPRA guidelines, we’ll do an informal interview. During this process, we’ll ask a series of questions to address the risk of BDD. This addresses social, psychological and cultural factors. This is so we can assess whether you’re an appropriate candidate for the treatment.
    3. The Outcome: Whether the treatment is delivered varies based on the outcome. If we have determined that you’re an appropriate candidate, we’ll create a treatment plan. However, signs of psychological risks mean a referral to an independent health professional.

*The guide provided is an overview of the psychological assessment for cosmetic procedures. However, this process widely varies based on several individual factors. For tailored cosmetic information, contact Results Laser Clinic.

We Support Your Cosmetic Aims through Informed Consent

According to the recent AHPRA guidelines, we must ensure informed consent.

To meet these standards, our team knows that keeping you informed should not be a one time thing. Our cosmetic nurses always work towards maintaining this through the process. This includes transparent communication, such as providing clear answers.

At Results Laser Clinic, your comfort is of our priority. Which is why, we emphasise the value of informed consent throughout the process. This then equips you with the right knowledge to make a decision.
