About Expression Lines & Wrinkles
Expression lines, also known as “dynamic wrinkles,” are caused by repetitive facial movements, such as smiling or frowning. While they are a natural part of aging, there are effective ways to reduce their appearance and prevent further development.
What Causes Expression Lines & Wrinkles?
-
Muscle Contractions
Frequent facial muscle movements create creases in the skin, leading to expression lines. -
Loss of Collagen and Elastin
As we age, the production of these essential proteins decreases, leading to reduced skin elasticity and firmness.

How do wrinkles & expression lines form?
As we age, repeated facial movements can lead to the development of lines and wrinkles. Cosmetic Aesthetic treatments target this by relaxing the facial muscles, helping to prevent static wrinkles from forming. The treatment works by creating a barrier between the overactive muscle and its nerve signals, effectively softening the appearance of wrinkles.

Aftercare
You will see slight bumps & injection marks
These will disappear after approximately 4 hours.
- Stay upright for 4 hours & go about your normal daily routine.
- Avoid laser hair removal, laser skin treatments, chemical peels & microdermabraision for 2 weeks after treatment
- Avoid activities which raise the blood pressure which can spread the toxin to unwanted areas, increase swelling, bruising & prolong recovery time.
- Wait at least 6 weeks before skin needling, non-surgical facelifts & fractional RF laser treatments
- Avoid rubbing the area, apply make-up or creams lightly & preferably use mineral makeup. Ask about VELVET CO. mineral makeup.
You may see swelling or bruising
This is caused by the injection & varies depending on your normal sensitivity to bruises or swelling.
To minimise, avoid:
- Strenuous exercise or yoga for 24 hours after treatment & risk bumping the area or raising the blood pressure.
- Facials or saunas, for 24 hours after treatment.
You may experience a headache
- Do NOT lie down for 4 hours after treatment, to avoid unwanted spread of the toxin, risk of pressure on the treated areas (from your pillow) & accidental rubbing in your sleep.
- Paracetamol may help with pain relief.
Your eyelid or eyebrow may droop slightly
This is due to an adjacent muscle being temporarily weakened. It can last 2-3 weeks & will wear off naturally.
- Book a follow-up consultation & discuss with your Nurse
A follow-up appointment is necessary after 2 weeks
To understand your personal reaction to the treatment & product, also to make adjustments or top ups.
If you experience prolonged redness, swelling, infection, rashes, breathing difficulties or any other issue with the treatment, contact your clinic. In some cases we may advise you to contact your GP.
